80 degrees one weekend and snow the next. That's Madison in the spring. With all the rain we've been getting, it's been hard to find time to get out and begin preparing the gardens for planting. Today offered a brief window of opportunity to get eh ground loosened up, but with snow in the forecast again tonight...it seems wise to maybe let things stay a bit longer.
Here's hoping for a drier week!

Marking Off Plots
Despite it being a cool Saturday morning, the Prairie Hills gardeners were out to mark off the plots for the 2011 growing season. Plots are now measured and marked off with white twine and you can now find your plot. If you don't know where your plot is, you can find a map of the garden located on the bulletin board or you can ask any gardener you see out working for help in locating your plot.

Straw for Mulch
Straw is great way to mulch the garden which means less weeding and watering you will need to do. We order mulch from a local farmer and it is great.

Planning Meeting Update
Prairie Hills gardeners met tonight for a brief planning meeting to discuss the need for a new treasurer and to determine if we should rent a rototiller or not. We are going to look into renting a rototiller from Home Depot or from other garden members and two gardeners volunteered to act as treasurers for this year.
Good Turn Out For 2011 Garden Registration
This past Saturday, Meadowood neighbors signed up for the 2011 Prairie Hills Garden Season. It was great to see old faces and see many new faces as we get ready for a great gardening season this year. Plots are currently being assigned and new participants will be notified in the coming days about if they got a plot or not.
